The Leica D-Lux 3 is such a versatile camera. The white balance is spot on every time when moving from indoors to outside and back again. At first I had to get used to not having a viewfinder peep hole. Instead there is a large image on the back of the camera. Sometimes in bright light it is hard to see, but most of my photos are taken in light that does not mess with the presentation on the screen. Is it in focus? Always. Do I have to be careful of where I point the metering and measuring? Sure, but I learned in no time. Usually the first shot is the best, which is good because many shots are taken on the fly, run or drive. Literally.

The D-Lux 3 has three aspect ratios to choose from: 4:3, 3:2, and my favorite, 16:9. With the wide reach of the 28mm lens I have finally found a camera that matches my vision. Horizontal. Back in the early '70s I did a lot of shooting with a square film camera, and got some nice compositions, but I always missed the wide view.

"Features
It’s impossible to tell the Leica D-LUX 3 from the D-LUX 2 unless you look at the rear panel, where the D-LUX 3’s larger LCD - 2.8-inch versus 2.5-inch - stands out. The bigger display allows full 16:9 aspect ratio images to be viewed intact. The lens, controls, weight, and shape are exactly the same. Internally, the D-LUX 3’s maximum resolution has been increased from 8.5 megapixels to 10.2 megapixels, the processor has improved low-noise performance, and the sensitivity range is quadrupled from ISO 100-1600, increasing the D-LUX 3’s ability to capture images in low light.
