Tools used
Hammer, pliers, vice, hacksaw, 1/4" drill, small wrench, grinder
Parts used
Collapsible hiking pole, ball socket camera mount, JB Weld, inch and a quarter bolt and nut, 1/4" diameter, washer, aluminum cable stop (smashable aluminum cylinder for clamping on cable) with diameter that will go in the cut end of the pole, as per illustrations.
Steps
The idea is to get a cable stop (about 1/2" diameter), with hole in the center for 1/4" bolt, as per illustrations.
Cut the top off of the pole, near the handle straps.
If the stop does not fit you may need to grind it to a smaller diameter.
A file will work in place of a grinder.
When the fit is snug, mix some JB Weld or epoxy to smear on the bolt ends after attaching the nut to hold it snuggly inside the aluminum stop.
Press or hammer the nut/bolt/stop combo into the sawed end of the pole.
After the JB Weld cures, you may attach a small ball socket head, available at most camera shops.
